AEROSTAR, involved in the major procurement programs of the Romanian Army
Noteworthy is also the opinion of the Minister of Defence Mihai Fifor, who declared that the Romanian Army will collaborate with AEROSTAR in regards to the major procurement programs which will be conducted. The maintenance of the Air Force’s F16 aircraft will be performed by AEROSTAR. According to Minister Fifor’s statements, Aerostar is currently negotiating, in an advanced phase, with Lockheed Martin regarding F16, but especially for HIMARS system. Minister Fifor did not forget to mention the traditional collaboration with Aerostar, company which may become the biggest partner for the Romanian Army in terms of maintenance and solutions in the field of defence systems.
The long-lasting collaboration with the Romanian Army started since its establishment, with activities of military maintenance and with the manufacturing of defence systems, multiple 122 mm launchers, but also various workshops and mobileequipmentforgroundforces, continuing in
the 80’s, with the manufacturing of the IAR-93 prototype, the first Romanian combat jet build after the second world war, and after the 90’s with the upgrading programs for aero and ground military platforms: MIG-21 Lancer combat aircraft, the upgrade of the MIG-29 Sniper technological demonstrator, upgrade of the integrated artillery system for the Romanian army, but also the program for the friend-or-foe identification system on a national level, as well as the programs for maintenance and upgrading radar systems, or upgrading the C-130 aircraft with advanced electronical systems of IFF identification and defence, all compatible and inter-operational NATO programs.
This tradition of cooperation is certainly for the benefit of the management of the company and for its profit but is highly important for the Romanian Army which has in its own country a partner capable to perform maintenance, various activities inthefieldofmilitaryanddefencesystems.
