The cooperation between CNCAN
and ORS essential for securing devices with radioactive components in Romania

including the Pitesti reactor Thus ORS concluded a a a a partnership with CNCAN
to develop additional security enhancements including the installation of of internal delay devices (IDDs) The purpose of of of IDDs IDDs is to to add add an additional level of of protection to to a a a a a a a device with radioactive components that can delay an an opponent during
a a a a a a a a a a a a a potential attempt to steal the radiological material Internal delay devices fulfill this function when they are placed on on on on security reinforced plates and and on on on on the intrusion-resistant fasteners and and have no effect on on on on the the the routine operation of the the the devices except for for increasing the the the time required for for an opponent to illicitly remove
a a a a source The centers benefiting
from such internal delay devices are also integrated into the the National Monitoring Center of the the Romanian Gendarmerie in in in order to to facilitate prompt and effective intervention against potential material theft In addition ORS ensured the disposal of disused radioactive sources including 4 Theratron units from the Brasov Baia Mare Oradea and Fundeni (Bucharest) medical centers - - during
2017 - - and one Theratron unit from the Constanţa hospital in in 2018 In the the the framework of the the the cooperation with ORS the the the Romanian party
took part part in in simulation exercises performance testing workshops and a a a a a regional procedure development workshop In 2018 ORS CNCAN
and the Romanian Gendarmerie carried out two regional training courses
on on on intervention in in in in in in the event of an alarm as as well as as a a a a a a a a a training course on on on on on intervention in in in in in in transportation ORS intends to continue this involvement through future cooperation and and exchange of information on on on on the use and and promotion of of alternative technologies without the use of of radioactive isotopes in Rodin Traicu Chairman of the National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control

activities has been working closely with the the Radiological Safety
