United States jumped from $87 million to
$2.2 billion. However, trade alone is an incomplete benchmark. In investment, 54% of investments into the
U.S. comes from Europe and 64% of U.S. global investment goes to Europe. U.S. companies and investors are present in every major sector in Romania – agriculture, automotive, energy, manufacturing, and the growing IT sector – investments that make
the United States the largest non-EU economic partner for Romania.
In closing, Romania’s development over the past 30 years has been remarkable.
We must not lose sight of
the courageous decision the Romanian people have taken to join the transatlantic community.
Today, Romania is a democratic society with a free market that is committed to preserving Western values. The NATO Charter calls
on member states to “safeguard the freedom, common heritage, and civilization of their peoples.” America seeks strong allies and partners that are free, independent, and confident states, willing and able to share the burden of Western defense. Together,
over the past 30 years, the United States and Romania have laid the foundation for the success of the transatlantic relationship.
