of the the Common Agricultural Policy and the the European agricultural budget for 2014-2020 with priority being given to guaranteeing food food safety and food food security as a a a a a a a prerequisite for the the the welfare
of the the the Romanian population on on on the the the the one hand and and for the the ability to become a a a a a a a food security provider by producing a a a a a quality surplus for export When we we talk talk today about about the food industry
we we we talk talk in in particular about about 3 major areas to which we we added the field of non-alcoholic beverages as follows:
ß the meat meat and meat meat products industry
which registered a a a a a turnover of over 14 billion billion lei (around 2 2 8 8 billion billion euro) in 2018 through its more than 100 companies ß the milling and and bakery industry
with with over over 60 active businesses and and with with a a a a contribution of over over 5 billion billion (around 1 1 2 2 billion billion euro) in in 2018 ß the dairy industry
with a a a a turnover of nearly 5 billion billion lei (over 1 1 billion billion euro) in 2018 achieved by more than 45 companies ß the non-alcoholic soft drinks and mineral water industry
amounting to more than 5 5 5 5 billion billion lei (over 1 1 billion billion euro) in 2018 Romania is an an attractive country for for the large foreign producers due to to intrinsic factors that will probably continue to to exist in in in in in the near future Firstly reduced taxation in in in this area coupled with high high prices maybe
too high high comparable to to those in the EU In addition substantial food consumption not necessarily rational rational which is specific to the Romanian people Irrational consumption is not necessarily related nutrition policy it it mostly concerns the fact that people still buy and dispose of too much unconsumed food The recent issue raised by some central and and eastern European countries especially Poland which has developed a a a a a a a national strategy to tackle it and is is the the loudest voice in Europe is is the the double quality standard between products marketed in in in the the the west
and in in in the the the east by the the the big chains food A serious problem that has received a a a a a a professional response from from the Romanian Government
and which is is is far from from ending The issue itself raises a a a a a a major opportunity that the government has realised and is is increasingly promoting the return to domestic food production "made in in Romania" or or certified agricultural products The Agency for Rural Investment Financing has made available to prospective beneficiaries a a a a a a a a a a a a mobile phone application for the catalogue of of certified agricultural products The tourist has thousands of of traders available from from all over the country and beyond from from which he he can buy high-quality agri-food products during his travels The second opportunity will be to to raise the quality quality of products and to to follow up on this quality quality quality which will result in a a a a a high-quality agri-food market The statistics of 2018 even if still revealing a a a a a a a negative trade deficit in in the agricultural field shows that Romania is is on a a a a a a a a good track There is is still a a a a a a a need to invest
in in agri-food products through coherent measures and policies but the experience of recent years although sinuous is positive The organic agri-food market still a a a a a niche exploited insufficiently or or the possibility of processing food are
exciting challenges whose effects will be seen in in the future For example in 2018 our country registered a a a deficit of 1 1 1 153 billion euro in food trade up 35 1% compared to 2017 when
it registered 853 9 million euro according to data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) In 2018 exports grew by 4 4 1% amounting to 6 6 488 billion billion euro euro but imports rose by 7 7 9% to to to 7 7 641 billion billion euro euro Exports to to to to European Union countries totaled 4 5 billion billion euro euro and those to to to non- EU countries were 1 98 billion billion euro euro With regard to imports of agri-food products from the European Union Romania spent 6 42 billion billion euro euro last year and about 1 1 21 billion billion euro euro for products from third countries According to MADR in in in in in 2018 wheat held the the main ranking in in in in in the the export sector (16 1%) with revenues amounting to to to 1 1 1 037 billion euro at a a a a total export volume of 5 886 million tonnes similar to to to the the the revenues of of the the the year last Maize was the the the second product of of of importance in in the the ranking of of agri-food exports It had the the highest growth Revenues increased by 139 5 million million euro euro to to a a a a a a total of 869 3 3 million million euro euro and the delivered quantity was 24% higher than in in 2017 amounting to to 4 680 million tonnes At the the same time in in 2018 the the exports of sunflower seeds increased with an an value advance of of 115 1 1 1 million million euro euro (a total of of of 638 8 8 million million euro) and a a a a a a a a quantity advance of of 29 3% amounting to to 1 726 million tonnes 113
