18 years of European funding in rural areas
EUR 13 billion for the development of the Romanian village
“In the 18 years since the establishment of the Agency for the Funding of Rural Investment (AFIR), an amount of over EUR 13 billion has been made available to Romania through the Agency, which benefitted farmers, processors, entrepreneurs and public authorities in our country”, said Adrian Chesnoiu, AFIR General Manager, for MediaUno.
As a result of the National Programme for Rural Development 2020, 4.2 million people in the rural area benefit from modern infrastructure and
a rehabilitation of cultural heritage. According
to official data, about 400,000 hectares of agricultural land have been realised or irrigation systems are being rehabilitated. At the same time, the National Program for Rural Development has
financially supported 10,098 young farmers in setting up farms, it has financed 238 agricultural and fruit product processing units and it has created over 7,000 jobs.
„Our objective is to ensure through these funds not only a momentary prosperity, but the long- term development of the Romanian village.
AFIR will continue to maintain the same high standard in its work and will constantly contribute to the sustainable development of the Romanian rural environment.
A permanent concern for AFIR is to make it
as easy as possible for people to access the European funds that we are managing and to implement the investments that received funding”, says AFIR Director General Adrian Chesnoiu.
